Collateral Damage: the health and environmental costs of war on Iraq

Medact, the UK affiliate of International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War, published an evidence-based report, summarising from a public health perspective the effects of the previous Gulf War. Instead of Nuclear Weapons

To develop security alternatives to nuclear weapons is one of mankind's
most urgent needs. Very few countries in the world rely on nuclear
weapons for their security. The nuclear weapons states must try harder!

In 2001, SLMK initiated the project "Instead of Nuclear Weapons", inviting papers from a number of peace research institutions. The submitted papers, presented at a symposium in Moscow on March 25, 2002, are available in print or as a downloadable .pdf file.

National Missile Defense

by Claes Andreasson
Updated with new interviews December 2001

President George W. Bush has made it clear that he wants to expand the limited missile defense the former administration outlined.

With the use of radar, satellites and homing missiles the $100 billion National Missile Defense is supposed to create a protecting shield over the United States, that could ward off a limited missile attack from "rogue nations".
